Safari Essentials & Preparation

Everything you need to know to prepare for your private Tanzania with Kenny safari

Passport & Visa:

  • Passport valid minimum six months from your departure date from Tanzania
  • Visa required for most overseas nationals
  • Recommended to apply on line prior to departure from your home country
  • Visa fee not included in your quote

Travel Insurance:

  • Comprehensive cover is essential, include air evacuation

Luggage:

  • Travel light, a small soft case or rucksack is ideal

Clothing & Packing Essentials:

  • Think layers, early mornings and evenings can get chilly, whilst the days can get hot
  • Neutral colours are best whilst on safari; green, tan, brown
  • Long-sleeve shirts & long trousers for evenings and mosquito protection
  • Lightweight waterproof jacket for rain/chill
  • Swimwear optional for campsite pools, the beach and hot springs
  • Change of underwear for each day
  • Washing powder may be useful too

Camouflage Clothing:

  • It is illegal in Tanzania for non-military personnel to wear camouflage clothing – do not bring

Toiletries & First Aid:

  • Shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, sunscreen, lip balm, hand gel
  • Personal first aid kit: painkillers, antidiarrheal medication, plasters

Mosquitoes:

  • Bring strong repellent and/or mosquito wristbands
  • Consider antihistamines if prone to bites

Not Essential but Useful:

  • Torch
  • Travel adaptor (three-pin sockets are the norm)

Binoculars:

  • Essential for wildlife viewing, but Kenny provides extras if needed

Camera & Accessories:

  • Zoom lens recommended for SLR
  • Extra memory cards & batteries

Water:

  • Tap water not safe to drink
  • Bottled water is included and carried in the jeep

National Park Entry Fees:

  • Fees included in your quote
  • Contribute to conservation & park protection
  • Prevent overcrowding

Talk to Your Safari Guide & Driver:

  • You decide the pace of the safari
  • Ask for stops, slow drives, or wildlife waiting
  • Kenny’s guides and drivers are experienced and knowledgeable

Currency:

  • Tanzanian Shilling (TZS) only available locally
  • Kenny can assist with the best exchange rates

Tipping:

  • Kenny pays drivers & chefs fairly
  • Tipping is not compulsory – it is not a hidden extra as with other safari companies
  • Guests may tip if they wish, but all guide, driver and chef costs are included in your quote
